Hello Newsletter Friends,
I've moved! Not in the physical realm, but in the digital. My email newsletters now have a new home here on the Substack platform, where it’s a little easier for me to share my art and writing with you. I'm still unpacking my digital boxes and suitcases so things may feel a bit experimental - I hope you don’t mind the temporary mess while I feel out how to build a new home here.
For the newer subscribers, hello and welcome! I'm Annie a.k.a. Headexplodie - I'm a visual storyteller, educator, and fun weirdo who you’ve signed up to receive these occasional digital letters from - thank you! I appreciate you!
Lately, I've been feeling very, very…something. Along with the newsletter platform move, I've been in the process of updating my website and developing new art and offerings to share, which sounds very business-business but it’s also very personal because when you’re an artist, your “self” tends to blend into your work in a public way.
The projects I've been working on have me reconnecting with old and new parts of myself - I want to hug these old and new parts, and I realized, the feeling I've been feeling is “tenderness.”
I made the animation at the top of this post on Wednesday, not realizing that’s what the word was - the feeling just translated into this clay Lumpy Lumpo sweeping up a baby dragon and stroking it on its little head.

After a long exhausting work week, I took myself out to a quiet lunch, exhaled, and the phrase “I've missed you,” came to mind. I've been reconnecting with my inner child and feeling very tender towards her. More to share on this in future newsletters, as this is a topic that I'm exploring a lot in 2024!
🍼🐉 What would you do with a Baby Dragon?
Even though you know they grow to be terrifying ferocious beasts that would devour you in a heartbeat, would you still embrace them and cuddle them like a kitten? How could you not?! They’re freaking adorable!

These tiny polymer clay original sculptures need homes so if you would like to adopt one, they are currently waiting for you in my online shop:
That’s all for now! I’m really excited to see what I can get up to in this space. Hope you liked reading…you’re welcome to reply back and let me know what you think or comment on substack (I guess that’s a thing you can do here!)
Till next time…
❤️,
Annie
