Two quick announcements for this week:
I am doing an online panel talk this Thursday with one of my favorite people in the world, my illustration agent Kat Irranejad of Totally Reps:
Hosted by Lisa of Inkygoodness Collective, we’ll be talking about the artist/agent relationship and I’ll be sharing my work and breaking down my process for a couple of claymation ID’s I made for Adult Swim last year.
Creativity, Play & Connection with Totally Reps & Annie Wong aka Headexplodie
Thursday 30th January @ 6pm GMT / 1pm EDT - Tickets £10
Attend live or watch the replay!
Tomorrow is Lunar New Year! I have 3 new Red Envelope Pieces in Grumpybert’s annual Red Envelope Show. The show opening is this Saturday, Feb 1st at Harman Projects in NYC. I believe there will also be a lion dance on opening night!
For the past couple of weeks, I have been making an effort to take myself out on daily walks. Julia Cameron says it’s a good thing to do and that lady’s book kinda changed my life. Sometimes I need to do it just to feel human and not alone, like that Morrisey line, “I want to see people and I want to see life.” In the last newsletter, I mentioned incorporating more improv into my life, and along those lines, walking allows me to stumble upon surprises in the world around me, I never know what mundane delights I will encounter in the urban wild.
One time a dude was so excited that the orchid flower in the barbershop window had opened up that he pointed it out to me, eyes wide and smiling. Another time I saw a nicely dressed lady probably on the way to brunch with her friends wearing strappy heels sliding off her ankle, I thought, “Geez, that must be really uncomfortable but her outfit is cuuute.” Last week I struck gold and found several hand-made laminated NO POOPING signs staked into the grass. They must've been a school or community project and oh how I wish I could’ve been able to witness the making of these things:
The flies! The mixed media! The exclamations! SO GOOD. I want to commission more signs from this little mystery artist.
Anyway, I’m off to take a walk now.
Till next time,
Annie
